Listening Library with the level filter set to A2 Elementary.
You can listen as a guest, without an account.
A story opens with its title, level and number of chapters. The player sits at the top, with the waveform, the play button, the time and the speed. The transcript is under it.
While the audio plays, the sentence being read turns bold and blue, and the transcript scrolls to keep it in view. Select any sentence to jump to it, and playback starts from that point.
My First Job, an A2 story. Selecting a sentence started playback from 0:08.
This is the quickest way to replay one sentence you missed, without dragging through the audio to find it.
Select 1x to change the speed. You can choose 0.5x, 0.75x, 0.85x, 0.9x, 1x, 1.1x, 1.25x, 1.5x or 2x.
The speed menu next to the player.
Small steps such as 0.85x and 0.9x are the useful ones. At 0.5x the words come apart, but the rhythm of real speech is lost. Slow down only as much as you need to catch the words, then go back to 1x.
The transcript helps most when you do not read it first.
On the last listen you should understand almost everything. If you do, the next story at this level will be easier.
Key Vocabulary sits next to the transcript. It lists the words a story depends on, each with a short definition, such as salary in My First Job. Select the speaker icon to hear the word.
Read these before the second listen. A word you know on paper is much easier to hear in a sentence.
If you catch less than half of a story on the first listen, try the level below. If you understand it all at 1x without the transcript, move up a level. Stories at B1 and above are longer and use less common words, so expect to slow down more often when you first move up.
To practice hearing every word, try daily dictation at your level, where you type the sentence you hear. To check your understanding with questions, reading practice with answers marks each answer as you go.
